Urban transformations are the result of the interaction of political, economic, cultural, environmental, and other variables, which generate conflicts and develop the interests of different social sectors. Incorporating a spatial perspective into studies of urban transformations aims to determine the growth of urbanized areas and their impact on land-use changes. The city and port of Acapulco, located in southern Mexico, is the economic capital of the state of Guerrero. During the 20th century, Acapulco became Mexico's leading tourist port, generating accelerated urban growth. This research aims to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution of Acapulco's urban transformation from 1930 to 2020, based on thematic cartography and quantitative indicators using Geographic Information Systems. The results allow us to identify the dynamics of urban expansion in the city of Acapulco, as well as to measure population growth and land-use changes. The results will also assist planners and decision-makers in the diagnostic phase of territorial planning.
