  • Vol. 1 (2025)

The Journal of the National Autonomous University of Honduras has been the official publication of the Alma Mater since 1909. The best way to continue its historical and ever-renewed legacy is by fulfilling its mission to stimulate research, dialogue, critique, and the dissemination of the most relevant academic thought generated within the university community, with the aim of transcending academic boundaries and building a bridge to society.

The research articles in this issue were selected by specialists in their respective fields—external peer reviewers who assessed their quality based on criteria established by the journal’s editorial board. The selected works correspond to each of the journal’s sections, and their diversity reflects the wide range of scientific and humanistic disciplines cultivated at UNAH.

  • Vol. 1 (2024)
Revista de la Universidad is an open space for researchers, faculty members, and scholars from our institution. Year after year, it receives a growing number of submission requests for articles and relevant research findings with high societal impact, which are then evaluated and approved by an editorial board. The digital version is indexed in the CAMJOL platform and the Tzibalnaah institutional repository, and will soon be included in Latindex. A key feature of the journal is its multidisciplinary nature, featuring opinion pieces as well as scientific, academic, and cultural articles under an Open Source—meaning open access—model.   The 2024 edition features the journal's regular sections and includes a total of 30 works. These are illustrated with photographs showcasing our university’s heritage collections, made possible through contributions from the National University Photo Library (Fototeca Nacional Universitaria) and the archives of the Directorate of Culture. The tributes section features a special dossier dedicated to Dr. Rutilia Calderón Padilla, in honor of the UNAH 2024 Academic Year, celebrating her role as the architect of the University Reform process that continues to this day.
  • Vol. 1 (2023)
Revista de la Universidad is moving forward into this new era, aiming to consolidate its position as an academic journal that reflects the University's core functions: teaching, research, and university-society engagement, along with cultural and knowledge management as strategic areas of academic life. Within the regular sections, readers will find historical, literary, and scientific essays contributed by faculty members and researchers from our institution, as well as from Central American universities with which we maintain permanent cooperative relations. The tributes section highlights the 2023 Academic Year, honoring the illustrious doctor and scholar Dr. Jorge Haddad Quiñónez. He was a central figure in the university reform process (serving as both a member and president of the Transition Commission), as well as an outstanding physician committed to science, education, social outreach, and scientific research. A special section in this issue features a thematic dossier on the 1924 civil war, considered the bloodiest recorded in early 20th-century Honduras. In it, historian Mario Argueta provides an account of its causes and implications, which continue to extend into the present day.
  • Vol. 1 (2022)
The UNAH Directorate of Culture presents the 2022 edition of Revista de la Universidad to the university community. The cover illustration features María Josefa Lastiri de Morazán by Honduran painter Teresita Fortín (from the collection of the Casa-Museo Morazán in Tegucigalpa), on the occasion of celebrating the 2022 Academic Year: "Honduran Women in Bicentennial History." Within this framework, we highlight the paper: Aportes de Francisca Reyes y José Trinidad Reyes en la educación del siglo XIX en Honduras (De Las Heras), which emphasizes the prevailing educational context in Central America during the 19th century and the educational efforts supporting young girls in Tegucigalpa led by Francisca Reyes del Palacio. This edition comprises 22 articles distributed across our regular sections, alongside reviews of recent editorial releases. Topics spanning economics, law, and pedagogy are part of the current issue. We extend a special thank you to Professor Paúl Martínez for his personal collaboration and for providing access to the institutional image bank through the National University Photo Library (Fototeca Nacional Universitaria).
  • El Bicentenario de Independencia 2021
    Vol. 1 (2021)
The year 2021 was designated by the National Autonomous University of Honduras as the "Academic Year of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Honduras and Central America (1821–2021)." In order to prepare the commemorative activities, the University Commission for the Bicentennial Independence Commemoration (CUBICEH, by its Spanish acronym) was established via a rectoral agreement. The commission aimed to generate events of high social, cultural, and educational significance from UNAH, thereby contributing to strengthening Honduras' collective memory throughout its two hundred years of republican life. The current issue of the Revista de la Universidad (University Review) seeks to contribute to these objectives and offers a selection of writings related to key figures in the building of the nation. These include the speeches delivered on the occasion of the unveiling of busts and statues honoring José Trinidad Cabañas, Francisco Morazán, José Cecilio del Valle, and José Trinidad Reyes in 1883.
  • Vol. 1 (2020)
The COVID-19 pandemic brought about severe health complications that impacted all areas of national life, also affecting the production process of the 2020 edition of Revista de la Universidad. This submission call coincided with the onset of the first cases in the country and the declaration of a national emergency in March 2020. Despite these challenges, the process continued to its completion, resulting in both a printed physical version and a digital edition. The latter is available on the main digital platforms provided by the institution for the university community and both national and international audiences. The Essay section features four articles by five authors who provided insights on diverse topics, including historical pandemics, Honduras' participation in international fairs, and the perspective of explorers who traveled through the country during the second half of the 19th century. In the Research section, ten authors share seven studies that contribute knowledge generated from academia. The Art section includes two articles by eight authors exploring the national artistic landscape, examining cinema and dance through the academic study of these artistic disciplines. Under Cultural Management, the text reviews the 2020 edition of the University Festival of Cultures (Festival Universitario de las Culturas), an event that brings together faculty, students, cultural managers, artists, and audiences to showcase the breadth of Honduran cultural life through artistic performances. The University Life section presents an overview of the development of higher education, as well as a study on critical thinking across two faculties within our university. The year 2020 marked the birth centennial of national sculptor Mario Zamora Alcántara, a milestone highlighted in the journal's Graphic Memory section. Furthermore, 2020 celebrated the selection of Father José Trinidad Reyes Sevilla as the honoree for the academic year, exalting his life and legacy; consequently, two articles are included to shed light on his career, featuring the full transcription of the biography dedicated to him by Ramón Rosa. Finally, the New Editorial Releases section lists the primary publications published by our university, which are now available for the enjoyment of Honduran society and interested international readers.
