Abstract

2022 Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr. Peter J. Hotez, is one of the world's leading exponents of vaccine development, an advocate of therapies for the management of Neglected Tropical Diseases and a proponent of the concept of diplomacy in relation to vaccine science. Dr. Hotez is dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, professor of pediatrics, molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, co-director of the Texas Center for Vaccine Development for Children, and served as U.S. Science Envoy during President Obama's administration for vaccine diplomacy projects in the Middle East and North Africa. These backgrounds are relevant to understanding the context of writing a book that examines, from an autobiographical perspective, how to deal with the larger challenges of international relations and global conflict in addressing science issues that impact people's health.
