Abstract

The objective of this essay is to analyze the organizational process of the strike and mobilization of March 8, 2020 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, known as 8M. The question we intend to dispel is what were the particularities that generated a participation of women numerically never before achieved in demonstrations for their rights. This is useful to facilitate and strengthen the awakening of feminist consciousness at the collective level. This research reports on the key elements that were woven throughout the mobilization. The text, which presents a brief overview of the current demands of the feminist struggle and its role in the current political scene, is structured in four sections. The first introduces the elements that allow us to understand the magnitude of the 8M demonstration, contextualizing the importance of focusing the demonstration on missing women and feminicide. The second section describes the methodological guidelines used in the research, while the third section describes the organizing process carried out by the feminist network #YoVoy8deMarzo. The last section presents the conclusions and some questions that remain open at the present time and that allow us to imagine the paths that the feminist movement in Guadalajara can take.
